Vindicated

Hope dangles on a string
Like slow spinning redemption
Winding in and winding out
The shine of it has caught my eye

And roped me in
So, mesmerizing and so hypnotizing,
I am captivated, I am

Vindicated
I am selfish
I am wrong
I am right
I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed, but I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself

So clear
Like the diamond in your ring
Cut to mirror your intention
Oversized and overwhelmed
The shine of which has caught my eye
And rendered me
So isolated, and so motivated
I am certain now that I am

Vindicated
I am selfish
I am wrong
I am right
I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed, but I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself

So turn
up the corners of your lips
Part them and feel my finger tips
Trace the moment, fall forever

Defense is paper thin
Just one touch and I'll be in
Too deep now to ever swim against the current
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip against the current
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away

Vindicated
I am selfish
I am wrong
I am right
I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed, but I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself

Slight hope
dangles on a string
Like slow spinning redemption...

Vindicated

1. To clear of accusation, blame, suspicion, or doubt with supporting arguments or proof: “Our society permits people to sue for libel so that they may vindicate their reputations” (Irving R. Kaufman).

2. To provide justification or support for: vindicate one's claim.

3. To justify or prove the worth of, especially in light of later developments.

4. To defend, maintain, or insist on the recognition of (one's rights, for example).

5. To exact revenge for; avenge.

Chris Carraba was invited to contribute a song for the Spiderman 2 soundtrack and so the directors gave him a copy of the script and showed him bits and pieces of the film. After all that, this is the song that he came up with. Hence the line, "Hope dangles on a string."

If you've seen the movie (which I am sure you have), the lyrics just go to further illustrate the way Peter Parker feels. He's been given this gift that he has to deal with... it draws him further away from the person he loves, but draws him closer to the responsibility he must fight with. It's just kind of describing the way he's seeing his role as Spiderman. He is "vindicated" in that he was pushing Mary Jane away for a good reason, even though she can't understand it right away. He's beginning to see all the things in himself that Mary Jane saw all along.

Hope that helps.
